The sport version of boules, as a discipline, is called Petanque and is played by two teams:

The starting team is chosen by tossing a coin. One player from the first team chooses the starting spot and draws a circle on the ground with a diameter of no less than 35 cm and no more than 50 cm.

The player from the winning team throws the jack. The first team to score 13 points wins. Any deviations from these rules are permitted to enhance the game.
